Australian singer songwriter Troye Sivan, whose debut EP TRXYE hit #1 on iTunes in 66 countries, has become known for his signature brand of moody yet melodic dark-pop songs. The 20-year-old released his debut full-length album Blue Neighbourhood on December 4th. The follow up to his WILD EP, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top 200, will feature his new single “Youth”. Troye has an impressive 14 million combined social followers and 270 million video views, and has received endorsements from Taylor Swift, Adele, Sam Smith, and more. Troye has been featured in Fader, Nylon, LA Times, Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, Billboard, Teen Vogue, and much more. Troye’s first US tour in October sold out in minutes, and his second national tour will begin in late January coinciding with the vinyl release of his album.
Shamir is Shamir Bailey, a 21 year¬ old musician from Las Vegas. He grew up not on the strip but in the desert, right across the street from a pig farm. Like many people his age, Shamir listens to all kinds of music, and sees no difference between Taylor Swift and Mac DeMarco. He played in a punk band called Anorexia, and taught himself guitar by learning old country songs. Northtown, his debut EP on small New York label GODMODE, had gospel, house, pop, disco, and country elements. But mostly? That voice. It’s Shamir’s alien, androgynous voice that got people talking this year. Nothing sounds like Shamir, and nope, that’s not falsetto. As powerful as it is though, Shamir’s voice has a humble quality to it. He uses simple words and sings about relatable feelings. He knows which words to simmer on, and which ones to let go. Shamir can be exuberant, and his joy can be infectious. He can also sing of loneliness – and make us all feel less alone. His XL debut Ratchet, released in May 2015, is strictly the former – 100% pure id.
